Voice Typing for Notion, From Your Desktop

Notion is where your project briefs, wikis and half-finished ideas live. Getting them out of your head and onto the page is the slow part. Whispek lets you speak into a Notion block and get clean text where your cursor is, whether you use the Notion desktop app or Notion in your browser.

Whispek is voice typing for Windows, Mac and Linux. It's not a Notion plugin, so it works in Notion and most other apps, with no workspace access.

Why long-form writing in Notion feels slow

Notion pages tend to be long and loosely structured: a project brief, a decision log, a personal journal, a page of research notes. That kind of writing has a few problems when you type it:

  • The blank page. You know what the project is about, but a fresh page with a blinking cursor makes you edit before you have written anything.
  • Thoughts outrun fingers. Brain dumps work best when you capture everything first and organize later. Typing makes you organize as you go.
  • Jargon and names. Project code names, product terms and teammates' names get mistyped or autocorrected, and you fix them one by one.
  • Context switching. You jump between a page, a database row and a comment. Each one needs a few sentences, and each one breaks your flow.

Talk through the brief the way you'd explain it to a colleague. It's up to 4x faster than typing, and the "um"s are cleaned up for you.

How to use Whispek in Notion in 3 steps

  1. Click into a Notion block. Open the page in the Notion desktop app or in your browser and place your cursor in the block, heading or comment box where the text should go.
  2. Press your voice shortcut and talk. The default is Right Alt on Windows, Right Option on macOS and Left Ctrl + Left Alt + Space on Linux. A small capsule shows that Whispek is recording. With Live transcription display on, the original transcript appears above it as you speak. Stop recording when you are done.
  3. Review, then keep going. Whispek inserts the completed text at your cursor. Adjust a word, press Enter for a new block, and dictate the next section.

A good rhythm for a project brief: dictate one section per block. "Goal" in one recording, "Scope" in the next, "Open questions" after that. Short recordings are easier to review than one long monologue.

Whispek features that help in Notion — Live transcription display

Turn on Settings > Voice & translation > Live transcription display to see the original transcript above the capsule as you talk, so you can check a key term before the text lands in your page.

Whispek features that help in Notion — Style

In Style > Cleanup, choose Auto cleanup to remove filler words and tidy punctuation, Original to keep your raw words, or Custom for your own cleanup instructions. In Style > Text, Formal, Casual and Very casual control capitalization and punctuation: Formal gives full sentence case and punctuation for a client-facing brief, while Casual keeps your own notes lighter.

Whispek features that help in Notion — Dictionary for project vocabulary

Add project code names, product names and specialist terms to your Dictionary so they come out the way your team spells them. In Dictionary > Learning settings, Cloud learning is on by default, and you can turn it off.

Whispek features that help in Notion — History and result versions

Every dictation is saved in History on your computer. If you overwrite a block or close a page too early, open History, read the original transcript and switch between saved result versions.

Whispek features that help in Notion — AI assistant for selected text

Select a paragraph you dictated and discuss it with the Whispek Assistant in a separate conversation. For example, ask it to suggest three headings for a long brain dump before you split it into sections.

Example: a project kickoff page

You say: "Goal, um, we want to move the onboarding emails to the new template before the end of the quarter. Scope is the welcome email and the two follow-ups, not the billing emails."

With cleanup on, the block reads: "Goal: we want to move the onboarding emails to the new template before the end of the quarter. Scope is the welcome email and the two follow-ups, not the billing emails."

If your notes come from a call, see meeting notes to text for a structure you can speak right after you hang up. If you then need to share the update with your team, the same workflow works for dictation in Slack.

FAQ

Visit the help center
Does Whispek work in Notion?

Yes, in the Notion app or your browser. Click into a block, hold Right Alt and talk.

Is Whispek an official Notion integration?

No. Whispek does not connect to your Notion workspace. It is a system-wide desktop voice typing app that inserts text where your cursor is, so it works in Notion the same way it works in other apps.

Can Whispek remember how I spell my project names?

Yes. Add them to Dictionary once and they're in your dictionary on every computer you sign in to, so Whispek writes them your way. Whispek can also learn new terms from your corrections.

What happens if I lose a paragraph I dictated?

Open History in Whispek. It keeps your dictations on your computer, so you can read the original transcript and switch between saved result versions, then paste the one you need.

Does voice typing in Notion work offline?

No. Whispek uses cloud services for speech recognition, cleanup and AI features, so you need an internet connection. History stays on your device.
