Why typed ChatGPT prompts end up too short
- Context is the expensive part. The question is one line. The background, constraints and examples are a paragraph or two, and that is what people skip when they type.
- Follow-ups break your thinking. A good chat is a back-and-forth. Typing every correction ("no, shorter, and keep the second point") slows the loop.
- Pasted material needs instructions. You paste a report or an error log, then have to explain what you want done with it.
- Prompting in a second language. Speak Chinese, or any of 30 recognition languages, and Whispek can type the prompt in English.
When you talk, you naturally add the "because" and the "for example". Those are the details that change the answer.
How to dictate into ChatGPT with Whispek in 3 steps
- Click the ChatGPT message box. Use the ChatGPT desktop app or open it in your browser, and place your cursor where you type a message.
- Press your shortcut and explain the task out loud. Right Alt on Windows, Right Option on macOS, Left Ctrl + Left Alt + Space on Linux. Talk through the goal, the audience and the format you want. With Live transcription display on, your transcript appears above the capsule as you speak.
- Check the prompt, then send. Whispek inserts the text into the message box. Read it, fix a term if needed, and press Enter. Use the same shortcut for each follow-up.
Whispek features for ChatGPT prompts — Live transcription display
Turn on Settings > Voice & translation > Live transcription display to see the original transcript above the capsule while you talk, which helps with long prompts where one misheard word can change the meaning.
Whispek features for ChatGPT prompts — Transforms for AI prompts
Dictate a rough prompt, select it, open the Transforms window and choose Create an AI prompt to get a clearer version before you send it to ChatGPT. To add your own instructions, use New transform on the Transforms page in the main app.
Whispek features for ChatGPT prompts — Raw or cleaned-up output
For prompts, you may want your exact words, including quoted text, or a tidied version without filler. In Style > Cleanup, choose Original for raw output, or choose Auto cleanup.
Whispek features for ChatGPT prompts — Voice translation
Speak Chinese, get English. Pick a target language once (303 to choose from), press your Translation shortcut and talk; the translated prompt lands in the box.
Whispek features for ChatGPT prompts — Dictionary
Add your product names, libraries and acronyms once, and Whispek writes them your way in your prompts.
Whispek features for ChatGPT prompts — History for reusable prompts
History keeps your dictations on your computer. When a prompt works well, find it in History and reuse it in a new chat.
Example: a follow-up that changes the answer
First answer too generic? Instead of typing "make it better", you say:
"That's close, but the audience is new hires in their first week, not managers. Cut it to five bullet points, keep the part about expense reports, and drop the jargon."
That is one sentence of intent and three concrete instructions, spoken in one go and sent as a single message.

How this differs from the Whispek Assistant
Whispek also has its own AI assistant for asking a question about selected text or attached photos or screenshots in a separate conversation. Dictation for ChatGPT is different: you keep using ChatGPT, and Whispek just turns your voice into the text you send there.
Pricing
Whispek is free every 7 days. Pro is unlimited for $8.25/month, billed yearly ($99), or $12 month to month. Prices exclude tax.
