Why Slack eats your typing time
The problem with Slack is not one long document. It is volume.
- Dozens of short replies. Each one is only two or three sentences, but you write them all day, and each one means stopping what you were doing.
- Tone matters more than length. A rushed one-liner can read as curt. Writing a friendlier version takes extra time you don't feel you have.
- Explanations get cut short. When someone asks "why did we change this?", the full answer is easier to say than to type, so people often type a vague one and get follow-up questions.
- Mixed-language teams. If teammates work in different languages, you may write the message twice or run it through a separate translator.
You already know what you want to say. Just say it.
How to dictate in Slack with Whispek in 3 steps
- Click the message box. Open the channel, thread or DM in Slack and put your cursor in the message field.
- Hold the thought, press the shortcut, speak. Use your voice shortcut (Right Alt on Windows, Right Option on macOS, Left Ctrl + Left Alt + Space on Linux). With Live transcription display on, the original transcript appears above the capsule while you talk. Stop recording when you finish.
- Read it once, then send. Whispek inserts the text into the message box. Slack still waits for you to press Enter, so you can fix a word or add an emoji first.
Tip: for thread replies, start by naming who and what you are answering. "Maya, on the release date question..." gives the reply context without extra typing.

Whispek features that fit Slack — History for the message you deleted by mistake
If you clear the message box or switch channels before sending, open Whispek History, find the dictation and reuse it.
Example: a status update in a channel
You say: "Quick update on the login bug. We found it, it's the token refresh, fix is in review and should ship tomorrow morning. I'll post here when it's live."
That goes into the message box as a tidy three-sentence update. You read it, press Enter, and get back to work.
Writing longer messages to people outside Slack? The same habit works for voice typing in Gmail. For notes you want to keep, try voice typing in Notion.
