Dictate a Slack thread reply in the right place
Open the channel, direct message or thread you want to answer. Focus the actual reply field before starting your voice shortcut. A channel’s main compose box and its thread reply box are different destinations.
Whispek prepares ordinary written text. To notify someone, choose the real @mention using Slack’s own controls. Check the thread and recipients after text arrives, and send it yourself. If the field does not accept direct insertion, copy and paste the draft.
Core message-writing tools are free
Free includes voice input, text cleanup and the personal dictionary with a shared weekly allowance. Paid plans add usage. This is a text-field workflow; no Slack account connection or meeting-recording integration is promised.
Start with the right conversation and reply box
For WeChat, Feishu, Slack or Microsoft Teams, the relevant question is whether the particular compose field accepts ordinary text insertion. Desktop and browser versions can behave differently. Open the conversation you mean to answer and check whether you are writing in the main chat, a thread or a direct message.
- Confirm the person, group or channel before placing the cursor.
- Click the editable message body, rather than search, a recipient picker or the app’s own audio-recording control.
- Use the voice shortcut shown in Whispek; Right Alt is the Windows default.
- Say one reply, stop recording and keep the target conversation in view until the result is ready.
Turn an update into a useful written reply
A compact reply can cover status, the missing detail and a next step. For example: “The revised proposal is ready. I still need the final delivery date before sending it to the client. Could you confirm that by this afternoon?”
After dictation, replace “this afternoon” with an exact time if colleagues work in different time zones. Add the document link or attachment using the chat app.
Choose text when the recipient needs to scan it
A written reply lets the recipient read the request and copy a date, name or action without playing audio. To send an audio message instead, use the messaging app’s own voice-note feature.
If you need to explain several topics, dictate them in separate passages and edit the paragraph breaks before sending. Keep the final message focused on what the recipient needs to do.
Review names, mentions and commitments
A spoken name can become ordinary text without creating an actual mention. Use the destination app’s person picker when you intend to notify someone. Check who the selected mention points to, especially when several people share a name.
- Verify the recipient, channel and thread again after inserting the draft.
- Check dates, amounts, task owners and whether a tentative idea became a firm promise.
- Add or verify mentions, links and attachments in the messaging app.
- Read the tone, then use the app’s normal send control yourself.
If the reply does not appear
If the result is available in Whispek, copy it, return to the intended compose box and paste. Look for a partial draft first so you do not send a repeated paragraph. If you switched chats during processing, confirm the destination before doing anything with the result.
If the field is read-only or your account cannot post there, resolve that access issue in the chat app. If no result was generated, use the recording and processing troubleshooting guide.
Use your team’s rules for work content
Whispek uses cloud processing for recognition and cleanup. Follow your organization’s requirements for the information you dictate. Keep important decisions in the team’s usual shared documents or chat records.
