Troubleshooting

Find the step where voice typing stopped.

First separate four symptoms: recording never started, the microphone captured no clear speech, processing failed, or text was recognized but did not insert. Start with the matching section so you can recover the result or change the relevant setting.

The shortcut does nothing

Open Whispek and check the voice shortcut shown on its home screen. Right Alt is the Windows default; Right Alt + Space opens the assistant instead. A customized binding takes precedence over these defaults.

In Settings → General, inspect Keyboard shortcuts. If another application uses the same combination, choose a different available binding. Return to an ordinary editable text field, start a short recording and check that the recording indicator appears.

Recording starts, but the microphone cannot hear you

Open Settings → Voice and input in Whispek, select the intended microphone and use Microphone check to view its input level. A headset can be connected for playback while a different microphone remains selected. Check the hardware mute switch and cable or wireless connection.

On Windows 11, open Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone. Enable device microphone access and access for desktop apps. Then return to Whispek and check the level while speaking. If the selected device has no input, resolve that before adjusting recognition languages.

Recording finishes, but processing fails

Read the specific error shown by Whispek. Recognition and cleanup need internet access, a signed-in account and available service allowance.

  • Connection error: restore access to the service, then follow the retry option offered by the app.
  • Sign-in error: open Whispek and complete sign-in before making another request.
  • Usage limit: check the account’s remaining allowance and next refresh time.
  • Language error: reload recognition languages and resolve any unsupported saved selection.

The result exists, but the target field is empty

Copy the available result, click the correct editable field and paste it manually. First check for partial text to avoid duplication. A retained result may also be available in History; a deleted or unretained record cannot be assumed to exist.

Focus changes, protected fields and app permissions can affect automatic insertion. An application running as administrator may reject input sent by an ordinary app. Use an editable destination that accepts normal paste; if the target intentionally restricts editing, resolve its access requirements rather than repeating the recording.

The text appears, but the wording is wrong

If many ordinary words are wrong, reduce background noise and check microphone placement and input level. Then check Recognition languages in Voice and input. Use automatic detection or relevant supported language hints; changing display language does not change recognition.

If only a recurring name is wrong, add its intended spelling to Dictionary. If the draft changes a number, deadline or meaning, correct that text before using it. Repeatedly sending the same unclear recording is not a substitute for recovering clear audio.

Adjust recognition languages

If the problem continues, report the failed step

Use the contact page with your Whispek version, Windows version, the approximate time and time zone, the exact error text, and the destination app. Say whether recording started, whether a result exists, and whether manual pasting works. Include a task or diagnostic identifier if the app provides one. This information helps distinguish recognition failures from delivery failures without needing an unrelated document or conversation.

GOOD QUESTIONS

A few things worth knowing.

Visit the help center
Should I record everything again if nothing appeared in my document?

First check whether Whispek already has the result. If it does, copy and paste it into the correct field after checking for partial insertion. Only troubleshoot recording if there is no usable result.

Does a working microphone mean cloud processing should work?

No. Microphone capture and cloud processing are separate steps. Processing also depends on connection, sign-in and available usage.

Can signing in on another computer recover my history?

Voice history is stored on the original computer. Account sign-in on another device does not transfer those local records.
